As a Social Media Intern, the candidate will work to build EDN’s social media presence and   enhance its public image. The intern will assist with the creation and management of various platforms, as well as reporting and monitoring of social media trends. The intern will also work closely with the Leadership Team to fulfill competitive research needs and time-sensitive projects. The candidate will work with the Leadership Team in expanding EDN’s social media following, engaging EDN’s audiences, and  promoting organizational initiatives.

Candidates must be comfortable and knowledgeable about analytics, monitoring, and social listening. In addition, the candidate must be a creative thinker, highly organized, self-motivated, and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.


  • Support the organization in enhancing its social media presence

  • Manage and update all social media platforms of the organization on a regular/daily basis

  • Work with Leadership team to create content

  • Provide social performance recaps for various initiatives

  • Various research assignments

  • Find insights by leveraging several tools and information sources to identify key data, surveys and articles, such as Google Analytics and other data aggregators

  • Conduct competitive benchmarking through a quantitative and qualitative analysis

Required Qualifications:

  • College student currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.

  • Must have an interest in working with community organizations/nonprofit Sector.

  • Must be based in DMV or DC Metro Area.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Google Docs, social media analytics tools

  • A passion for the internet, social media, and thorough knowledge of millennial media usage trends

  • Experience and active with wide range of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, HootSuite, Swarm, Snapchat)

  • Excellent work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude

  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow through

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Desire to learn and grow in a fast paced environment

Highly Desired

  • Knowledge of global social media platforms (Weibo, WeChat, Douban)

  • Experience with video/video editing programs and Photoshop

  • Strong analytical (Excel) and reporting (PowerPoint) capabilities

  • Experience creating graphic content for promotional materials (i.e. event flyers)
