#GivingTuesday is upon us once again and it’s one of the best ways to give back to your community! This year Eritrean Diaspora Network (EDN) implores you to make a difference in the Eritrean Diaspora community and include us in your charitable giving on November 27th, 2018. Our #GivingTuesday 2018 goal this year is $5000! Your donation will directly impact EDN’s ability to continue fostering change and help us realize our vision for a united Eritrean community.
What did donors like you help us accomplish in 2018? We:
- Continued to foster professional growth among Eritreans by expanding circulation of the Monthly Professional Development Newsletter and diversifying professional backgrounds of spotlights
- Hosted the last installment of the EDN 3-part seminar on leadership
- Launched college readiness programming providing Eritrean youth in the DMV college financial planning and admissions support
- Provided opportunities to build meaningful relationships through various social events including a summer happy hour series and a summer BBQ
- Educated Eritreans on issues faced in our communities, while advocating for and engaging voters leading into the 2018 Mid-Term Election
How your donations will continue making an impact in 2019? In the coming year EDN plans to:
- Expand Eritrean youth programming by continuing to offer college readiness and mentorship programming
- Establish a scholarship fund for college bound Eritrean youth
- Provide enhanced professional networking opportunities
- Continue cultivating personal relationships through various social events
- Host a professional development seminar series focused on developing practical skills and job hunting tactics
- Advocate for immigrant rights and promote awareness around the current state of immigration reform
- Host a legal seminar and various workshops to support the citizenship application process
- Support the integration of Recent Arrivals into their new communities by providing pertinent information around health, human services, and legal rights through additional installments of the Recent Arrival Toolkit
