Could you briefly explain some of your responsibilities in your current career role.

I am an Executive Director at MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), managing relationships with institutional investors across the country. I advise them on allocating assets in different global equity markets such as emerging and frontier countries.

How did you come to decide that this was the right career path for you?

In high school and college, I gravitated to finance because of the excitement of the stock market and watching movies like “Wall Street”. Of course it’s not as glamorous in real life but has different challenges everyday which keeps it interesting.

Is there a philosophy that drives your career?

My first boss gave me a great piece of advice that I still live by today: “I’d rather you beg for forgiveness than ask for permission”. I truly believe the ones that get ahead aren’t afraid to take chances. Whether it’s a career choice or moving to a new city, don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone.

What do you consider to be your greatest professional accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment would have to be ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange two years ago. I had seen it done on TV many times in the past but to be up on the podium was something special. A close second accomplishment would be moving to New York and getting promoted to Executive Director. Living in New York is a great experience; if you can make it here you can make it anywhere.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone looking to transition into your line of work?

Always go the extra mile. If you have free time, take on an extra project or additional responsibilities. There is little downside and unlimited upside.

Outside of all of your hard work and efforts toward building your brand, what do you do for fun? Hobbies?

I try to stay fit through regular workouts and travel during my free time. Family is also very important so I try to make it back to Seattle as often as possible to see my seven nieces and nephews.
