For this month’s professional spotlight we are featuring Daniel Ghilwet. Dan is an associate at JPMorgan Chase, and also serves as an acting member of EDN’s Professional Development Group. Learn more about Dan and his background.

Could you briefly explain some of your responsibilities in your current career role.

I currently work as an associate at JPMorgan Chase, focusing on monthly reporting and analysis around Anti-Money Laundering initiatives for the Consumer & Business Banking division. I strategize and offer monthly risk summarizations to our AML executives and compliance directors around how we are protecting the company from fraudulent activity.

How did you come to decide that this was the right career path for you?

I became interested in Banking & Finance when I started college. After graduation I was hired on as an analyst and had the opportunity to rotate around different finance jobs for two years. That rotation led me to my current role, which I find very exciting and intellectually challenging.

Is there a philosophy that drives your career?

To always find ways to challenge and improve yourself, and to always challenge the status quo.

What do you consider to be your greatest professional accomplishment?

Being among the first members of my family to graduate from college. My parents were not afforded the opportunity to attended school, but instilled the importance of education in myself and my siblings.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone looking to transition into your line of work?

Always ask questions and never be afraid to say that you don’t understand something. Those two qualities will carry you far, not just in a corporate environment, but life in general!

Outside of all of your hard work and efforts toward building your brand, what do you do for fun? Hobbies?

I’m a huge fan of sports and athletics. I enjoy playing any type of competitive sport. Spending time with my family and reading are also big for me.
